How to Read an IR LED Bare Die Datasheet

Peak wavelength (λp)
Where emission peaks. Match it to your sensor response and optical filter.
Optical power / radiant flux
Light output at a stated current (MANULED lists values at 20 mA). Scales with drive current until thermal limits.
Forward voltage (Vf)
Voltage drop at the test current. Sets driver headroom and series string length.
Reverse voltage (Vr)
Maximum reverse bias before damage. Protect against reverse transients.
Absolute max current
Never exceed. Derate for temperature and duty cycle in your design.
Chip size and thickness
Drives die attach, optics and thermal path. Sizes are customizable from 254 to 1270 µm.
Metallization
Gold top and bottom contacts set bonding and die-attach options.

FAQs

Where can I download the MANULED datasheet?+

Each wavelength has a datasheet page at /products/{wavelength}/datasheet, for example /products/850/datasheet.

Why is optical power given at 20 mA?+

20 mA is a standard comparison point. Real designs may drive higher current within thermal and absolute maximum limits.
